Easy mediumFeaturedA paved clifftop path at sea level with short stairs and ramps between the parks. The only difficulty is other people: tourists on the Cisneros stretch and cyclists on the lane beside you.
The experience
Flat, paved and continuous, broken only by stairs and ramps between parks and two footbridges over the ravines. Run it one way from Barranco to San Isidro, or back for 10.8 km.
Two bridges made the run continuous: the Puente de la Amistad in 2020 joined Miraflores to San Isidro, and the Puente de la Paz in 2025 joined it to Barranco. What used to be a walk down and up a ravine is now one line.
The malecón is named in sections: Cisneros for the poet Antonio Cisneros, Paul Harris in Barranco. Miraflores guards it with district police; San Isidro built the Parque Bicentenario in 2020 for Peru's 200 years of independence; the Puente de la Paz was financed by the tourism ministry through Plan Copesco at 30 million soles.
Where the sources disagreeThe malecón is a public park, not a course: cyclists, scooters and tourists share it, the Cisneros stretch is packed from mid-morning, and the municipality was still renovating the cycle lane in stages in 2024. The Puente de la Paz bars motorcycles and requires cyclists to dismount; it opened on 21 August 2025 to a protest by neighbours, and its rules may change. The Parque Bicentenario keeps park hours; the path through it between the malecones is open 24 hours.

Route sections
The 112 m Puente de la Paz, open since 21 August 2025, crosses the Armendáriz ravine from Barranco with a glass strip in the floor. Cyclists must dismount on it; runners do not. The Malecón de la Reserva beyond is the quietest stretch, past Larcomar to the Villena bridge.02 · The Tourist TaxPuente Villena Rey to the Faro de la Marina
The Malecón Cisneros, with the Parque del Amor and the paragliding launch: the most photographed kilometre in Lima and the slowest to run through. ESPN Run's advice is 6:00 to 9:00 or 16:00 to 18:00, before and after the crowds.03 · La MarinaFaro de la Marina to the Coliseo Manuel Bonilla
The northern malecón has the sports courts and the exercise stations, and fewer people. The lighthouse, 21 m tall, marks the turn into it.04 · The Friendship BridgeColiseo Manuel Bonilla to the Parque Bicentenario
The Puente de la Amistad, 48 m of span opened in July 2020, carries the path into San Isidro and its 20,000 m² Parque Bicentenario. The path between the two malecones is open 24 hours.
Weather profile
What the sky
is likely to do.
Coastal desert with a grey lid. May to October the garúa fog sits on the cliff most mornings, cool and damp with no rain to speak of; December to March is sunny and warm by mid-morning. Wind off the sea on the exposed stretches.
